I've been with this club for a while now and love my coach Chris and everyone who I train with. I always wanted to train what we do but didnt know what it was called. It wasn't boxing or judo thats for sure! Love the environment, socials, the skills we learn and how anyone of all levels is welcome.

Chris has taught my two kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA for years - he is a patient, kind and caring coach. He also coaches my husband who has been doing classes since 2014 and it’s helped his fitness and strength so much. I highly recommend Chris Cleere and Marlow BJJ.

I have been training with Chris for the past 8 years. He is the best Jiujitsu teacher in the area! His attention to detail and love of the art is inspiring. If you want to learn life skills and resilience look no further. It is a safe, fun and supportive community. If looking for self defense classes or even just a way to get back into shape, come join, you won’t regret it!

I have trained with Chris for 6 years and he is a great coach guiding me from beginner to purple belt. Marlow BJJ is a very welcoming club for people with any ability/level of experience. I strongly recommend the club if you are interested in training BJJ!

Trial Class FAQ's

Q: What do i need to bring with me?

Just some shorts or jogging bottoms, a t-shirt or gym top, some water and... yourself! We have a range of fresh spare Gi tops for you to use if trialing a Gi class. If you wish to get involved in some light sparring at the end of the class you can bring a gum shield if you have one, but this is not mandatory for beginners on trial classes.

Q: I'm a complete beginner, is a Trial class suitable for me?

Yes! Most people who trial classes, or start Jiu Jitsu at all for that matter are complete beginners. Our head coach Chris and everyone at the club is very welcoming and will support you throughout your trial class, and answer any questions you have.

Q: What can I expect from a trial class?

If you're curious about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a trial class is the perfect way to introduce you to the sport and martial art. You'll also have the opportunity to meet many of the clubs members and our head coach Chris and get a good taste for his coaching style and ability.

Q: What does a typical class look like?

First we all line up in belt order, bow, and begin our warm up routine which consists of light jogging and jiu jitsu specific warm up drills, all of which are easy to perform for beginners. This makes up about 20% of the class. After the warmup, our coach begins demonstrating a handful of technique's we've been working on that week. Questions are asked and answered, and then we pair up and slowly drill the tecniques. This makes up about 50-60% of the class. Then, we finish the class with sparring, where we can put techniques to the test. This makes up 20-30% of the class, however we sometimes finish with a warm down of stretching or breathing techniques. We then line up and finish the sessions with a bow and a handshaking our training partners.
